Nablus: The Mountain of Fire Fights Back

Nablus: The Mountain of Fire Fights Back

The month of October saw a tremendous increase in resistance operations and the direct targeting of the occupation forces by Palestinians, many of whom were young men belonging to the Lions’ Den resistance group.

Areen al-Usood, or the Lions’ Den in English, is a newly emerged resistance group in the old city of Nablus. Similar to the Jenin Brigades and other groups, the Lions’ Den was established to protect the city of Nablus from the ongoing settler incursions and occupation raids. Palestinians welcomed this group as an extension of revolutionary groups fighting in the ongoing struggle for liberation.

In response to this increase in revolutionary activity and the growing popularity of the Lion’s Den resistance group, occupation forces began a heavy crackdown on the old city of Nablus, placing it under siege and regularly attacking the city under the guise of “security protocol”. Palestinians have gone to the streets to protest this siege that is stifling their already extremely limited movement in the occupied West Bank.

On October 24th, occupation forces stormed the besieged city of Nablus in yet another attempt to stifle the rising tide of resistance amongst the Palestinian youth. In the bloody, hours-long raid, occupation forces killed 5 Palestinian men and injured tens more
