The Popular University for Gaza is a coordinated mass movement of students, faculty, and staff that prevents universities from performing their daily functions. It creates a climate that pushes universities to answer community calls for full divestment from the Zionist entity. This counter-space refuses to allow universities to distance their reputation from the systems they invest in. Furthermore, this space undermines universities’ legitimacy through sustained popular pressure and disruption, repurposing the institution as a base for grassroots political education and growing the struggle for Palestinian liberation on and off campus. We will decide what we learn and how we gather until our universities divest.

Since November 2nd, the students have been asking for uOttawa to divest academically and economically from the state of Israel.
uOttawa says that “people make the difference”, and that’s why we are sitting in and showing our solidarity.
We are here to challenge status quo (of economic and academic support to the state of Israel) through learning and bold actions (our solidarity sit in). Coincidentally, these are the so-called core values of the University of Ottawa.
We’re aiming to occupy space, popularize our education, and demand accountability from our university for, in their own, enabling the genocide of thee Palestinian people, and families of their own students. At the University alone, over 200 Palestinians family members of students have been killed since Israel launched their war on Gaza. The situation only continues to worsen.
And so, here is what we are asking for.
We demand that the University of Ottawa fully disclose their updated investment holdings list.
We demand that the University of Ottawa divest its pension fund from corporations and institutions which facilitate Israel’s occupation of Palestine and genocide in Gaza. This demand encompasses, but is not limited to, companies such as: Airbus SE, Axon Enterprise, CAE Inc, and Scotiabank.
We demand our university commits to reviewing and accordingly breaking off relationships with academic Zionist institutions. (Example: Exchange program at Tel Aviv University).
Adopt the Arab Canadian Lawyers Associations’ definition Anti-Palestinian Racism.
